Turkey’s current sizeable automotive industry dates back fifty years and developed on the basis of a broader strategy of import substitution industrialisation. This strategy focused specifically on the production of light commercial vehicles. Over the past 10 years the industry has experienced strong growth on the back of the establishment of 13 OEMs producing over 1 million vehicles and a component industry comprising more than 500 suppliers.
